Anthony Scaramucci predicted the political demise of Vice President JD Vance by saying Vance “will go the way of Mike Pence.”
On Friday, the veep traveled to Greenland, which President Donald Trump said the U.S. wants to acquire from Denmark, a NATO ally. While there, Vance claimed that “Denmark hasn’t done a good job at keeping Greenland safe.” His comments came at a time when no country except the U.S. has suggested taking over Greenland – and by force. In January, Trump said he would not rule out military action against its ally.
Hours later on CNN’s OutFront, Erin Burnett played a clip of Trump talking about Greenland and juxtaposed that with remarks by Vance.
“The expression I use is ‘some people don’t have the cards,’” Trump said. “We’re the piggy bank that everybody steals from.”
“They just don’t have the cards,” Vance echoed. “We’re done being the piggy bank of the entire world.”
Burnett noted that Trump and Vance were also recently seen dressed alike and wore matching ties.
“Is this exactly what Trump wants to see and hear?” she asked. “Or at least, what JD Vance perceives him wanting to see and hear?”
Scaramucci, who for a hot minute served as Trump’s White House communications director in the first term, said Vance was making a “mistake” by imitating the president so closely.
“He’s not the president,” he remarked. “And whether you like the president or dislike the president, he has the following. He has the rizz for his team, MAGA. JD Vance hasn’t proven that. I think it’s probably annoying to the president that he’s over-modeling him. You know, people mistake this about [Trump.] I don’t think he likes the obsequiousness stuff.”
“That’s really interesting,” Burnett responded. “You say he doesn’t like the obsequiousness of it. I mean, as you know, Anthony, he dodged the question of whether Vance is his successor and the leader of the party. He didn’t commit when Fox asked him directly. So, do you think that’s part of this?”
Scaramucci answered by saying he thinks Trump will make the vice president “irrelevant,” going so far as to say Vance will follow in Pence’s footsteps.
“I do think that’s part of it,” he said. “And I think at the at the end of the day, I predict that JD Vance will go the way of Mike Pence here. The president will make him more irrelevant. He’ll do things to Vance that will compromise his position. He doesn’t like the attention that Vance is giving. And you should ask your sources why he went on that trip.”
Scaramucci went on to call Vance’s visit to Greenland “embarrassing” after the administration failed to find Greenlanders willing to warmly welcome the U.S. delegation.
