Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) was the latest lawmaker to find herself facing a fiery town hall crowd as she refused to call for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s resignation and she defended Elon Musk’s work with the administration.
At a Friday town hall in Indiana, Spartz was booed and jeered at a two hour town hall where she defended both Hegseth and Musk’s work with DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency).
“Will you demand the immediate resignation of Pete Hegseth, Michael Waltz, and the rest of the group chat?” one woman asked the congresswoman, referring to the ongoing Signalgate fallout where Hegseth and other officials were discussing Yemen attack plans in a group chat that a journalist was accidentally invited to.
The woman’s question earned cheers from the audience, but Spartz said she would not call for any resignations.
“So let me just address, no I will not demand their resignations,” she said in video aired by CNN.
Spartz’s answer was met with immediate boos as much of the crowd made their way to their feet. She went on to say the government needs to “do a better job” in how they share information as the crowd continued booing and heckling her.
In other video captured from the event, Spartz was booed for defending federal government spending cuts from DOGE.
“I obviously can tell you don’t like DOGE,” Spartz told the crowd at one point as they continuously booed any mention of the agency.
Spartz warned the crowd that they would not have any real engagement if they were just screaming.
“If you just came here to scream then we’re not going to have a conversation,” she said.
Spartz will also be holding a town hall on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump claimed that growing backlash to Republican lawmakers at town halls could be chalked up to “paid troublemakers.”
“Paid ‘troublemakers’ are attending Republican Town Hall Meetings,” he wrote on Truth Social. “It is all part of the game for the Democrats, but just like our big LANDSLIDE ELECTION, it’s not going to work for them!”
